Hi Jeremy,

First I apologize for still running Techozoic one rev back. I have been so busy with a house remodel I just squeak enough time to get posts up. The wife is not too pleased as she has several tested, written and in the can waiting to go.

At any rate I am trying to code a different blockquote:

The default one has these ‘ccc’ colored large double quote marks at the beginning and some margin top, bottom, and a 40px indent.

I tried my hand at a standard print stye type blockquote: ie just indented all-a-round. I think I got it by taking out the code for the quote mark and changing the blockquote to:

blockquote{
margin: 15px 165px 15px 40px;
padding-left: 40px;
}

see it in action here:

I was trying to get a real indent on both left and right margins of the quoted text, since the default seemed not to indent the right side.

As I understand margin, it goes Margin: TOPpx RIGHTpx BOTTOMpx LEFTpx;

But what is the right one measuring from, that is from the box the post is in, or from the right edge of the browser frame. And what does it mean if the listing is -RIGHTpx. (ie a minus value) Which point and direction does that get measured from.

thanks…

Yes you have the margin sequence correct. The right margin is applied from whatever container it is in. So in a post it will be from the right side of the post container. On the home page from the right side of the posts container.

You can also use percentage in margin. This will produce a variable margin, so when the browser is resized the margin is as well. As long as your using a fluid width page. This will produce a nicely indented blockquote.

blockquote{
margin: 15px 15% 15px 12%;
}

You can remove the padding altogether as that was only need by the quotation mark.

Thanks… I thought the padding was the first line of the block, which of course, included the quotation mark. You have emboldened me to play some more.

thanks!

Also, if you get a moment (no rush) could you email (off list) the style.css file for version 2.0.8.. I usually make a copy of the original files (as fall back) before I start playing around, and forgot to do so this time around.
