Child Theme

Hello!

I am fairly new to this, so forgive me. From what I understand, I should create a child theme if I intend to change any php coding. The reason I would like to change some of the coding is because I don’t want anyone to be able to post on the site. I don’t want it to be a blog. When I create a child theme and activate it, the website is blank. I have never had an issue creating a functioning child theme before, using other themes. Has anyone else had any problems creating a child theme using Techozoic 1.9.4 and is this even necessary?
