VMWare has launched it’s newest addition to the ESX line. The difference with this product is that it fits on 32MB of flash memory and is intended to be sold as a hardware virtualization product. VMWare achieved this by removing the general purpose operating system and only using the bare minimum services to run the hypervisor, the biggest change is that it no longer will include an administration console directly on the machine but instead use a remote console. This won’t pose a big problem to admins as the console commands are the same as before. ESX Server 3i as it is properly called is meant to be sold as an embedded hypervisor solution from OEM server manufactures.
